Today marks the 2 year anniversary of Sean Taylor's death. The University of Miami Alum & Washington Redskin safety was brutally murdered in his home, with his wife and child in the bedroom. Just a sad sad sad story. Any South Floridian will tell you, this is an especially tough day for us. I know I dred even thinking about it. I had only two football heroes growing up: Ray Lewis & Sean Taylor. In my high school locker room there was either a poster or photo of one of those two on almost every locker in our locker room. He was a football deity in South Florida.
I remember when Sean was at Miami Gulliver high school, and he and current NFL tight end Buck Ortega led their team to a state championship. He played quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive back, returned kicks and even kicked for them. He was a special player. I remember watching him wait his turn behind Ed Reed on the 2001 National Championship squad and then carry the Canes to the same game the next year albeit for a controversial loss. I remember the day he CARRIED Miami to a tough win in a monsoon against a far superior Florida State team in Tallahassee. There are just so many memories:
Here is Ed Reed, Willis McGahee, and Ray Lewis shortly after his passing showing respect to their brother from The U.
This is how family should be:
Here's rising star and DC rapper Wale speaking about Sean from his perspective a year ago on the first anniversary of that tragic day:
As menacing and terrifying as he was on the field "Meast" (Half Man, Half Beast) was equally humble and quiet off it. You never heard any stories about him in any altercations or him saying anything controversial in public or private. He was a stand up guy. This happened WAY too soon. I just feel bad thinkin about it. Sean we're missin' you big bro. Keep lookin down on us all. God Bless...
